Fix Your Vision with LASIK Eye Surgery
LASIK - Portland
For over 15 years, laser vision correction has been a safe and effective, FDA- approved treatment for a wide range of common vision problems, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. LASIK is currently the most frequently performed elective surgery in Portland, Oregon, as well as the rest of the United States.
Laser vision treatments involve the use of a laser to permanently change the shape of the cornea, the crystal-clear covering of the front of the eye. By adjusting the curve of the cornea, the focusing system of the eye is changed, allowing the patient to see clearly without the need for glasses or contact lenses. By measuring the eye before surgery, applying advanced objective diagnostic equipment, and using mathematical formulas developed from analyzing thousands of patient outcomes, we know how to program the laser to achieve the best custom LASIK treatment at our Portland, Oregon area offices.
There are two common techniques used in laser vision correction—LASIK and Epi-Lasik. LASIK involves the use of a separate instrument called a microkeratome to first make a thin flap in the surface of the cornea, whereas in Epi-LASIK, a much more superficial flap is created. The advantage of LASIK is the quick healing and visual recovery. However, for certain patients, the creation of a thicker flap is not advised. Dr. Teplick may recommend Epi-LASIK for these patients; healing time will generally be longer in these instances.
We take the time to properly screen our patients that are interested in undergoing LASIK surgery to ensure exceptional results and avoid potential complications. Dr. Teplick will evaluate your candidacy for the procedure and determine whether or not the procedure will provide you with a high chance of vision improvement that outweighs the potential complications. Three significant factors that play a role in a successful LASIK eye surgery are the skills of the surgeon, the technology used, and a patient eligible for the surgery.

In your consultation with Dr. Teplick, the potential side effects and risks will be discussed, in addition to all the benefits. At Teplick Custom Vision, we'll make sure that your laser eye surgery recovery period goes smoothly. In most cases, you'll be able to go right back to work after LASIK surgery; however, your eyes will not be completely healed until three months have passed. We want you to have the best vision improvement possible, and that is why we will help you through the recovery period. After the surgery, we'll have three appointments scheduled throughout the healing period to meet and touch base on how your eyes are doing. We'll provide you with steroid eye drops for the first week, in addition to artificial tears that you will be using for 2 to 3 months. We'll take the necessary steps to help your eyes properly heal.
