Helping Your Eyes Heal Properly

Just like the swift procedure of LASIK surgery, the recovery time for LASIK is also rather quick, making the whole process very time convenient. The LASIK recovery process starts after your surgery is completed at our Portland vision correction center. Dr. Stanley Teplick has 30 years of experience as an eye surgeon under his belt, and is more than capable of assisting you in a smooth recovery after your laser eye surgery.

Length of Healing Process for LASIK Surgery

In many cases, patients that have had LASIK surgery are able to return to work the very next day; however, that does not mean the eyes are completely healed. There are some common restrictions that you must follow in order to ensure a smooth recovery:

After your LASIK or other procedures, you will be given easy to follow post-operative instructions at our Albany, Bend, and Beaverton, Oregon offices.

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes.
  • Stay out of the pool for at least one week.
  • Do not wear eyeliner or mascara for at least a week.
  • Avoid contact sports or wear reliable eye protection while playing sports.

After laser eye surgery, most patients will achieve 90 percent of their total vision improvement over night; however, the last 10 percent will occur gradually over the next three to four weeks. The corneal flaps created during the surgery will take the longest to heal, requiring about three months to heal completely.

Post-operative Appointments

Dr. Teplick and our staff at Teplick Custom Vision are dedicated to earning the satisfaction of each of our patients. We will set up an appointment with you the day after the LASIK surgery to make sure that everything is going as planned, in addition to checking up on your overall condition. After that, we will meet with you again two weeks after the procedure, and once more two months after the procedure.

These post-operative appointments will allow us to analyze the progress of your vision, and ensure that the healing process is going well. We also recommend that you have ongoing regular eye exams, as LASIK surgery does not immunize a patient from regular eye care. If you do not have a family doctor, we are more than happy to recommend a doctor for you to provide you with ongoing care.

Medication for the Healing Process

After LASIK eye surgery, we provide our patients with steroid eye drops to use for the first two weeks of the healing process. Our patients will also receive artificial tears to use for about two to three months to lubricate the eyes until they are completely healed.

Success Rates for Our LASIK Surgery

We have a high success rate for our LASIK blade-less eye surgery procedure. Within the FDA parameters for application, 98 percent of our patients achieve at least 20/20 vision after the surgery. Close to 70 percent of our patients are actually seeing better than 20/20 after their procedures.

One of the many reasons our LASIK surgery services are so successful is due to the experience and teamwork of our staff. There have been over 35,000 LASIK surgeries performed at Teplick Custom Vision in the past 20 years, each one building up confidence in ourselves and in each other. Our high success rates, advanced technology, expertise, and dedicated patient care have led us to become the LASIK center for all major professional sports franchises in Oregon.
